Klargester History
A Legacy of Innovation
For over 70 years, Klargester has stood as a pioneer in wastewater and sustainable drainage (SuDS) solutions.
Klargester – Over 70 Years of Innovation and Expertise
Since 1955, Klargester has been a trusted name in wastewater and surface water management, leading the industry through decades of innovation, engineering excellence, and environmental responsibility.
Our journey began with a vision to deliver reliable off-mains sewage treatment solutions — and in 1965, Klargester designed and manufactured its first packaged sewage treatment system. By 1970, we had produced our first prefabricated GRP septic tank, a breakthrough in wastewater management technology at the time.
Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Klargester expanded both its product range and production capabilities. A second factory opened in 1972, and by 1979, we had launched our first large pumping stations. In 1981, we introduced the Klargester separator range — a game-changer in pollution control. Our commitment to quality and compliance was recognised in 1986 when we achieved BS 5750 accreditation, the forerunner to ISO 9001.
Innovation continued into the 1990s, with the launch of the BioDisc® BA model in 1991 — a highly efficient, rotating biological contactor system that remains a market leader today. In 1998, Klargester became part of the Kingspan Group, a move that enhanced our global reach and aligned us with a global sustainability vision.
The early 2000s brought further product advancements, including the launch of the BioTec range in 2002, the award-winning FuelMaster® in 2006, and the pioneering HydroClear range in 2014 — all developed to meet the evolving needs of residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
Klargester also continued to lead on environmental standards and safety. In 2015, our systems achieved EN12566-3 certification, and in 2016 we launched the HDPE septic tank, offering a robust, lightweight solution for challenging installation conditions.
From a single manufacturing facility in the UK to a globally recognised brand trusted across continents, Klargester has always been defined by innovation, quality, and environmental stewardship. Our systems are engineered to meet the highest performance standards — protecting watercourses, supporting sustainable development, and providing peace of mind to generations of customers.
As we celebrate more than seven decades of success, our mission remains clear: to shape the future of wastewater and SuDS management through ongoing research, responsible design, and a commitment to building a better, cleaner world.
