Digging Test Holes: Excavate one or more test holes of specific dimensions, usually down to the depth of where the drainage field will start typically around 1000mm, depending on local regulations and soil conditions. At the level of where the drainage field will be located you dig a 300x300mm hole and put a marker in at 75mm & 225mm from the bottom.

Pre-Saturation: Fill each test hole with water and allow it to saturate the soil overnight to ensure that the soil is fully moistened before conducting the test.

Measuring Water Level: Fill each test hole with water to a predetermined level and mark the starting water level.

Monitoring Water Level: Time the drop in water level from 225mm to 75mm which is the middle 50% of the percolation hole.

Calculating Percolation Rate: 

Percolation tests are integral to the selection and design of sewage treatment systems, including Klargester treatment plants, for several reasons:
