Tory Island Health Centre

Klargester BioDisc BB system installed in Ireland’s most remote island

Location:

Tory Island, Donegal

Our latest project took us across the waters to the beautiful Tory Island. Tory Island is an island 14.5 kilometres off the northwest coast of County Donegal and is the most remote inhabited island of Ireland. The island is approximately five kilometres long and has a small population of 144 people distributed among four towns. Access to the island is by ferry and operates daily all year round.

The Klargester team were contacted by the HSC contractor to arrange a free site visit to review and establish the best drainage system to serve the only health centre on the island.

After being contacted by HSC contractor, Area Sales Manager for NI and Donegal, Eamon Dunlop visited the site by boat to carry out an in-depth site assessment to ensure the correct sized sewage treatment plant was installed for the site. Eamon was on hand to offer advice on the appropriate system for the site and to provide full guidance from start to finish – from sizing requirements including percolation testing, full installation and commissioning of the product.

For this site on Tory Island, we recommended our Klargester BB BioDisc domestic sewage treatment plant.  Using tried and tested Rotating Biological Contactor technology, the BioDisc is engineered to treat wastewater to a high level of standards. It uses bacteria to break down the sewage and removes up to 95% of the pollutants in the effluent. Additionally, with a 7 year warranty period (terms apply), the Klargester BioDisc is one of our most popular sewage treatment plants.

Benefitting from affordable lifetime running costs, silent operation, no odour and is certified to European Standard EN 12566-3 and SR66:2015 (ROI only) this is a great addition to the health centre to offer peace of mind to the local communities they are fully complainant and non-polluting.

In late January 2022, we were delighted to make the journey over to the island once again to install the new Klargester BioDisc – only 8 weeks after the initial site assessment was completed by our area sales manager.

Planning an installation of a domestic sewage treatment plant can be difficult, but Klargester works alongside several accredited installers to help facilitate project management. Daniel Cullen from Gaelbuild Construction was on hand to install the new Klargester BioDisc and we are glad to report it was more plain sailing than the journey over!

The sewage treatment plant is a long-term solution for the Health Centre and will effectively cope with disposing of high-quality effluent waste into the surrounding grounds. Through our wastewater plant maintenance and tailored servicing packages, HSC Health Centre can ensure their Klargester system is properly managed and remains non-polluting to the environment in years to come.
